Flow Of Natural Gas From Blue Stream Pipeline Starts

ANKARA - Flow of natural gas from Blue Stream Gas Transfer Pipeline started on Thursday.
Botas (State Owned Turkish Pipeline Company) Director General Gokhan Bildaci said that the studies which started on December 17, 2002 in Durusu Gas Measurement Station were partially completed and the flow of natural gas started at 04.00 p.m. on Thursday.
Blue Stream project was brought onto the agenda within the framework of the agreement regarding transportation of Russian natural gas to Turkey under the Black Sea. Turkey and Russia had signed an agreement on December 15, 1997 and the agreement took effect on April 4, 1998.
Within the scope of the Blue Stream project, a 501-km long natural gas pipeline was installed between Samsun and Ankara. The 1200 km pipeline cost 3.4 billion U.S. dollars. A total of 2100 meters of the 376 km section of the pipeline passed under the sea.
The flow of natural gas will gradually reach 16 billion cubic meter in 2007 in accordance with Natural Gas Purchase Sale Agreement.
