ANKARA - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said on Tuesday that negotiations on Iraqi issue were held with two different cadres and in double-sided structure and added that some promises were given too early.
Addressing his party's group meeting, Baykal wanted open sessions to be held at the parliament on motions which would be brought onto the agenda from now on.
Criticizing the government due to its policy on Iraqi issue, Baykal said that Turkey was being tumbled into a dangerous war.
Baykal said, ''there is an interesting view now. We know that this war is an unjust war. Turkey also considers it unjust.''
Stating that Turkey was pursuing a double-sided negotiation strategy on Iraqi issue, Baykal said that on the one side it carried out a work against a war according to expectations of people and on the other side it gave some promises with an understanding which said that ''the country would do what was necessary''.
Baykal said, ''on the one side, preliminary studies for a military operation are continued. On the other side, there is work for peace.''
Stating that it was wrong to hold negotiations in a double-sided structure including an official cadre and a private one, Baykal said that Turkey should assume a different attitude on Iraqi issue irrespective of its relations with the United State and the other countries who wanted a war against Iraq.
