LEFKOSA - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Friday that United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan would come to Cyprus on February 26 and depart from the island on March 1.
President Denktas met with Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides in the buffer zone.
Prior to the meeting, President Denktas told reporters, ''Annan's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro de Soto called me on the phone and gave information about Annan's visit to the island. Annan will come to Cyprus on February 26 and depart from the island on March 1.''
''De Soto did not talk about a third plan of the United Nations. I think that Annan would bring the plan during his visit,'' he said.
Responding a question, President Denktas said, ''we cannot reach an agreement till February 28. This date has not been realistic from the very beginning. This date was set in accordance with schedule of the European Union (EU).''
Responding a question about the issue of security to be taken up between Turkey and Greece, President Denktas said, ''the issue was misunderstood. There is an invitation about number and place of soldiers. In fact, security and guarantee are comprehensive issues.''
President Denktas stressed that he would not sign the document of Annan before some certain changes were made.
