ANKARA - Turkish and U.S. delegations have started negotiations on signing of a memorandum about deployment of foreign soldiers in Turkey in a possible U.S.-led military operation against Iraq.
Negotiations started at the Ministry of Foreign Ministry on Friday.
Turkish and U.S. high-ranking military officials were also in attendance at the negotiations.
While Ambassador Deniz Bolukbasi headed Turkish delegation, U.S. Ambassador Marisa Lino led the U.S. delegation.
Diplomatic sources told the A.A correspondent, ''rules to which foreign soldiers will be subject after approval of deployment of foreign soldiers in Turkey will be taken up at the meeting. During the negotiations, the memorandum to be signed between Turkey and the United States will be given shape.''
The memorandum will include all rules about U.S. troops to be staitioned in Turky.
The negotiations are expected to continue in the weekend.
Last week, the parliament allowed deployment of U.S. technical and military personnel in Turkey for three months for renovation, development and construction of bases and ports. Renovation, development and construction works at bases and ports started two days ago.
