WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis, who is currently in the United States on an official visit, said on Thursday that issues between Turkey and the United States were not unsolvable problems.
Yakis came together with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Marc Grossman at luncheon.
Addressing journalists following the luncheon, Yakis said, ''I explained our concerns, and Mr. Grossman expressed their concerns. We observed that issues between Turkey and the United States are not unsolvable problems.''
When asked whether or not Turkey would sign a memorandum with the United States, Yakis said, ''we are trying to find an appropriate way for both sides. We understand concerns of each other. We have been working to find a solution.''
Meanwhile, Grossman expressed his pleasure with meeting with Yakis in the United States.
When asked whether or not the Cyprus question was brought onto agenda of the meeting, Grossman said that the Cyprus question had always been on the agenda.
Meanwhile, interdelegationary meetings between Turkey and the United States have been continuing.
YAKIS AND BABACAN MEET WITH HASTERT
Yakis and State Minister Ali Babacan for Treasury, met on Thursday with U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Dennis Hastert.
Any statement was not released about agenda of the meeting.
