French Ambassador To Turkey Garcia Summoned To Ministry Of Foreign Affairs

ANKARA - French Ambassador to Turkey Bernard Garcia was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.
Garcia held separate meetings with Ministry of Foreign Affairs deputy undersecretaries Ali Tuygan and Nabi Sensoy.
During the meetings, the Turkish side expressed its regret over Garcia's manner of speaking at his press conference.
Garcia informed Tuygan on joint plan of France, Germany and Russia.
During the meeting between Sensoy and Garcia, the sides exchanged views about Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
Addressing journalists following his contacts, Garcia said that France had not changed its attitude.
He noted that President Jacques Chirac of France had called President Ahmet Necdet Sezer on the phone and reassured President Sezer of continuing bilateral friendship.
Pointing out that France was a reliable ally, Garcia told reporters that they were in favor of solution of the Iraq crisis peacefully.
Yesterday, Garcia held a press conference and criticized Turkey and the United States for bringing the Iraq issue onto agenda of NATO Council hastily although they knew that a compromise could not be reached among the allied countries.
