Gul: Recent Developments About Iraq Issue Have Overshadowed Our Economic Works

IZMIR - Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Wednesday, ''recent developments about Iraq issue have overshadowed our economic works a little. However, this does not mean that the government has subordinate the economy.''
Speaking at a ceremony in western province of Izmir, Prime Minister Gul said, ''we want the Iraq crisis to be resolved peacefully. We will continue to do our utmost till the end. We have to take all necessary measures by taking into consideration the worst scenarios. It is the duty of our government. We will take all necessary measures to prevent spread of a fire, which will break out in our neighbor. We are determined to take all necessary measures to prevent any serious loss. This crisis will come to an end sooner or later. Then, we will face with the facts. Therefore, our primary target is to improve our economy.''
Noting that Turkish people had experienced serious difficulties in the past, Prime Minister Gul, ''all these difficulties should come to an end now. Our people have brought us to the political power in the general elections of November 3, 2002. A new era has begun in Turkey following the general elections. This era will be the stage of important reforms.''
''Recent developments about Iraq issue have overshadowed our economic works a little. However, this does not mean that the government has subordinate the economy. Economy has always our priority,'' he added.
