Dirioz: There Is Not Any Difference In Point Of View Within Nato

ANKARA - Foreign Ministry said on Monday that there was not any difference in point of view within NATO regarding defense of Turkey.
Foreign Ministry acting spokesman Huseyin Dirioz told reporters that some NATO members had hesitations about timing.
Turkey had taken all necessary measures on time in order to take under guarantee its security against possible development regarding Iraq, Dirioz said.
Dirioz noted that starting initiatives related with cautionary planning for defense of Turkey under the body of NATO came onto the agenda.
''The allies don't have any difference in their points of view about undertaking collective obligations for defense of Turkey when necessary. But, some allies have hesitations about the timing of making necessary NATO mechanisms operational,'' Dirioz said.
Dirioz stated that Turkey applied to invoke the fourth article of the North Atlantic Treaty in order to inform its allies and enable taking of necessary decisions on time.
''In this context, beginning of consultations under the fourth article and starting cautionary planning works in this process don't mean that an operation against Iraq is unavoidable,'' Dirioz added.
Meanwhile, diplomatic sources said that Ankara, which had launched initiatives in France, Germany and Belgium, was assured by those three countries that they did not have any hesitation about Turkey's defense.
Stressing that Turkey did not have such concerns related with its allies, the sources noted that concerns of those countries were not related with Turkey's defense but was related with the timing.
