ANKARA - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that AK Party ruling exerted every kind of diplomatic efforts to prevent a possible war, stating that, ''it should be known that Turkey is a very big country which the international community can not ignore in any of its decisions.''
Erdogan issued a message upon Feast of Sacrifice.
Erdogan said Feast of Sacrifice took place during a period when Turkey and the region were face to face with difficulties, stating that they were aware of those difficulties and that they exerted extreme efforts to save Turkey from those difficulties with the least damage.
Stressing that AK Party ruling exerted all the diplomatic efforts to prevent a possible war, and that it tried to prevent the war by covering an active policy.
He said, ''AK Party does everything for the solution of the problem through peaceful means. Everybody today knows that the problem could only be solved by Iraqi administration's abiding by the resolution of the United Nations. I find it beneficial to remind this once again.''
Erdogan said, ''despite all our efforts, and although we do never wish such an unfavorable situation, it is our fundamental assignment of the government to take necessary measures for the interests and security of our country against a possible war that may occur in the region. We are aware that Turkey would be one of the countries which will be affected the most from a possible war.''
Erdogan said, ''to this end AK Party ruling takes every kind of measures to protect interests of our country in scenarios after war,'' adding that, ''it should be known that Turkey is a very big country which the international community can not ignore in any of its decisions. It is our duty to protect the interests of our country, provide its security and increase its credibility.''
