Gul's Adviser Meets With Syrian President And Foreign Minister

ANKARA - Prime Minister Abdullah Gul's chief adviser Ahmet Davutoglu met with Syrian President Bashar al-Asad and Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara during his visit to this country.
Sources said that the two countries reached a consensus to take action to revive the process that Turkey launched at the beginning of the previous month for peaceful solution to Iraqi issue.
The sources noted that Davutoglu went to Syria the previous evening and the visit took place upon the mutual wish of the two countries.
Upon Gul's request, Davutoglu conveyed a proposal to al-Asad. The proposal foresees that initiatives between Turkey and Syria, among Turkey, Syria and Iran, and among Turkey, Syria, Iran, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia should be continued.
Al-Asad said that he was warm towards the proposal and would take them into consideration.
The Syrian President stressed that he was grateful to Turkey for the initiatives it had launched.
Al-Asad said that he would bring onto the agenda the ''Istanbul Declaration'', which was issued after the summit of the foreign ministers of five regional countries, during the meeting of the Arab League.
He would regularly inform Gul about his contacts in the regional countries, al-Asad added.
