ANKARA - State Minister Ali Babacan is having a meeting with U.S. Deputy Treasury Undersecretary John Taylor for International Affairs and his team at the Treasury. Sources said on Friday that high-level bureaucrats from the Treasury Undersecretariat, State Planning Organization, Finance Ministry, Central Bank and Ministry of Foreign Affairs were attending the meeting.
At the meeting, the sides were discussing how Turkey's losses due to any possible war against Iraq would be compensated by the Untied States and evaluating the IMF-backed economic program.
Officials said a draft aid package to Turkey would be prepared during talks in Ankara, and later it would be given final shape in the United States.
There is a need for U.S. Congress approval for any direct U.S. aid to Turkey.
Meanwhile, Taylor will be received by Prime Minister Abdullah Gul in the afternoon.
