Denktas: There Is Compromise In Many Issues

LEFKOSA - TRNC parliament had an extraordinary session on Thursday and took up the developments about Cyprus.
Speaking after the meeting, Denktas said that ''we listened to the friends; there is compromise in many issues.''
Upon a question Denktas said that the opposition put forward its known views in the meeting. ''Did you find the necessary support at the parliament?'' asked journalists to Denktas who said that ''I think so, the majority is with us.''
''Did you have any demand from the parliament, for instance did you voice your proposal for a referendum?'' asked journalists to Denktas who said that ''no, it is not the time for referendum.''
Later speaking in a meeting, Denktas said that they prepared a good plan for recovery in economy and that they would send it to Turkey soon.
Inviting Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan to TRNC, Denktas said that if an agreement can't be reached until Feb. 28, TRNC would continue on its own way. In such a case, the reason of Turkish Cypriots' not joining the European Union would cause more curiosity in the world and that the Cyprus issue would be learnt better.
Denktas said that they continued negotiations to correct the mistakes in Annan plan, they proposed many proposals for amendment, but that the Greek Cypriots rejected all those proposals. ''The thing Greek Cypriots want is to claim ownership on the whole island under the title of 'legitimate Cyprus government'. They applied to the EU to this end. They applied to the EU for their own political purpose,'' he said. Denktas stressed that Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides openly told what that purpose was: ''end of Turkey's effective guarantee, end of bi-zonality which was promised to Turks, return of all immigrants and victory of Hellenism.'' Denktas commented that Annan plan covered all those points.
Denktas will meet with Clerides at 9.30 on Friday.
