U.S. Treasury Department Undersecretary Taylor Due To Turkey

WASHINGTON - John Taylor, the U.S. Treasury Department Undersecretary for International Affairs, will go to Turkey on Thursday to hold contacts on aid package that the United States plans to give to Turkey under any possible military operation against Iraq and on Turkey's economic program.
U.S. Treasury Department's spokesman Tony Fratto said that Taylor was expected to arrive in Turkey early the same day.
Noting that Turkey was an important friend and ally of the United States, Fratto said that during Taylor's visit, talks on Turkey's economic program were targeted to continue and relations between the two countries were targeted to be improved through evaluation of progress regarding economic reforms.
Taylor is expected to stay in Turkey until the weekend.
Statement on Taylor's visit to Turkey was made after Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said they would support the United States in a possible military operation against Iraq.
