ATHENS - Turkey and Greece signed a protocol on cooperation in tourism field on Wednesday.
Tourism Minister Guldal Aksit who came to Athens to attend meeting of Turkey-Greece First Tourism Joint Commission spoke to reporters together with Greek Development Minister Apostolos-Athanasios Tsokhatzopoulos after the protocol was signed.
Stating that the protocol aimed to further improve cooperation between the two countries, Aksit said that it also aimed to market Turkey and Greece together to far countries.
Aksit stressed that cooperation in that field would also contribute to Balkan countries.
Noting that Tsokhatzopoulos invited her to a meeting on regional tourism which would be held in Thessaloniki, Aksit said that she accepted his invitation.
Aksit said, ''I think that private sector organizations should be brought together for development of cooperation in tourism field. I invited Tsokhatzopoulos to tourism forum which will be held in Istanbul in May and he accepted my invitation.''
Aksit stressed that Turkey and Greece had many cooperation possibilities in marine tourism field.
Tsokhatzopoulos said that they thought that Turkey and Greece could present joint programmes to countries including the United States, China and Russia and noted that the two countries had a big cooperation potential in that field.
Touching on visa problems of people coming from Turkey to Greece, Tsokhatzopoulos said that they knew difficulties of Schengen agreement and added that they would try to provide flexibility as much as possible on that issue.
Aksit will depart from Athens on Thursday.
