ISTANBUL - The ''human shield'' group which is composed of Italian, Spanish, Canadian and Swedish persons who came to Turkey from Italy, held a news conference at Istanbul Doctors Chamber before their departure for Iraq.
Rudolfo Tucci addressed the press conference in which Tolga Temuge, a member of ''Anti-War Coordination Against Iraq,'' and a member of Greenpeace Mediterranean Office, also participated.
Tocci said that he organized the 12-member human shield group who is going to Baghdad from Italy, adding that ''our message is that 'everybody can do something against war.' ''Going to Baghdad is important, but not everybody can do that. Yet everybody can talk to each other and call for peace and they can attend the peace demonstrations to be held in many countries on Feb 15,'' he said.
Tucci said that they don't favour Saddam Hussein, adding that they would leave for Baghdad in three days and that they would stay in hospitals and schools there.
Ethem Tekdemir, who will go to Baghdad from Turkey as ''human shield'' commented that the Turkish people should put pressure on the parliament in order to prevent the parliament from giving authority to the government to support the U.S. regarding the Iraqi crisis.
