Yalcinbayir: Turkey Will Intervene In A Place Only If It Is Mandatory And For Security Reasons

ANKARA - State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ertugrul Yalcinbayir said on Tuesday that intervention of Turkey in any place in case of a possible operation against Iraq could be possible ''only if it was mandatory and for the security of the country.''
Yalcinbayir, who responded to statements of Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Bulent Tanla regarding a survey on a possible operation, said that Turkish public did not want war.
''Nobody wants war, we don't want war either,'' said Yalcinbayir.
Yalcinbayir noted, ''we want peace till the very end. We are extremely hopeful for a peace. The moment when a war nears is maybe the moment when peace is very close to us. We have never talked about war scenarios. We have talked about peace and international legitimacy.''
The issue would be debated at parliament in detail, Yalcinbayir stated.
Yalcinbayir said that entering a place with a decision of parliament would be possible ''only if it was mandatory and for the security of the country.'' He added that it would not be ''for a war.''
