Guney Elected Once Again To International Criminal Tribunal For Rwanda

ANKARA - Retired Ambassador Mehmet Guney was elected once again to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda among 23 candidates during the election held at U.N. General Assembly on January 31, 2003.
Issuing a written statement on the issue, Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that Guney was still the Turkish highest ranking official who was charged within the U.N. system.
''The election of our candidate to the Tribunal at the first rank carries a special meaning as the sign of the importance Turkey attributes to development of International Humanitarian and Criminal Law,'' Ministry said.
Guney who was the former Chief Legal Adviser of Foreign Ministry, also worked as Turkish Ambassador to Havana, Singapore and Jakarta.
