TARIQ AZIZ: I HOPE TURKISH PARLIAMENT WILL NOT SUPPORT WAR
Iraq Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz said that it was known that Turkish people were certainly against a war and he added that he hoped that Turkish Parliament would not support war. Recalling that Turkey had large amount of losses in Gulf Crisis, Aziz said that the loss of Turkey would be more in case of a new war. He added that the United Nations arm inspectors saw in their inspections that Iraq was purified from mass destruction weapons.

BAYKAL: WE SHOULD NOT OPEN TURKISH LAND TO U.S. SOLDIER
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said that they would vote for the decision of sending Turkish troops to Iraq in Parliament; however, they were against the arrival of U.S. soldiers in Turkey for an operation against Iraq. He said that they would vote for Turkey's entrance to Iraq as a measure for a possible operation against Iraq, but they would be against opening Turkish land to U.S. soldiers for war.

TURKEY OFFERED CONDOLENCES TO U.S.
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent condolence messages to U.S. President George Bush for the loss of seven astronauts in space shuttle Columbia disaster. Gul said in his message that he shared the pains of relatives of dead people and American nation.

GOVERNMENT TO SEND OFFICIAL NOTE TO PARLIAMENT
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul who informed the AK Party about the developments in Iraq said that ''we resist the U.S., but we can send an official note to the parliament after 2-3 days.'' Speaking in the meeting of AK Party Central Decision Board which was close to press, Gul said that the government fought for peace, but the U.S. insisted Turkey to take a decision in the parliament about the Iraqi issue as soon as possible.

TURKEY CAN JOIN EU BEFORE 2010
Renault Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Louis Schweitzer said that he believed that Turkey would be a full member of the European Union (EU) before 2010. Stating that Turkey took the necessary steps on the way to the EU, Schweitzer said that there was a government in Turkey which wanted seriously to be a member of the EU. He added that he didn't compare Turkey with other Muslim countries.

HAWK SHIELD
Hawk missiles which were put in military airports and critical ports of Turkey, will hit missiles of Saddam in the air during a possible operation. The Turkish Armed Forces set up Hawk missile systems in Diyarbakýr, Adana, Van, Malatya, Batman and Etimesgut Airports and critical ports. Turkish Armed Forces have eight Hawk missiles.

CYPRUS GUARANTEE FROM U.S.
U.S. Undersecretary of State Department Marc Grossman said that Annan plan was the last chance for Cyprus and responded to those who criticize the plan and said that ''the U.S. won't support an agreement which will bring the pre-1974 period in Cyprus.''

THE MOST DIFFICULT AGENDA
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said that the official notice concerning the authority for upgrading the military bases could be presented to Parliament this week. Government would like to wait for the resolution of the United Nations for the authority to send troops and deployment of U.S. soldiers in Turkish lands. The administration of Justice and Development Party (AK Party) would launch initiatives to convince the party group to support Washington administration in its operation against Iraq.

WASHINGTON IS IMPATIENT
'Northern front' plan of Washington is at risk as Turkey is hesitant in its decision while the United States is increasing preparations for an operation against Iraq. The United States prepares to put pressure on Turkish government to take authority from Parliament in this week.

DECISION WEEK FOR TURKEY
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said that Turkey had two or three days left in order to convey its decision to the United States. The United States conveyed Ankara that it would like to start upgrading work in ports and bases until February 10. Gul said that they would wait for a few days and then send official note for upgrade and sending troops to the Parliament.

EXPORTER IS WORKING
The export amount of Turkey in January 2003 reached three billion 450 million U.S. dollars with an increase of 41.1 percent, in spite of a possibility of war and economic difficulties. Turkey's export amount in the same period of 2002 could only reach two billion 454 million dollars with an increase of 4.6 percent.

PUBLIC MEETING HELD IN ISTANBUL TO SUPPORT DENKTAS
Thousands of persons who convened in Sisli Abide-i Hurriyet Square in Istanbul on Sunday shouted slogans supporting TRNC President Rauf Denktas and they said 'no' to Annan plan. True Path Party (DYP) leader Mehmet Agar, Great Unity Party (BBP) leader Muhsin Yazýcýoglu also attended the meeting in which people shouted slogans saying ''Turkey Is Together With Denktas,'' ''Independent Turkey,'' and ''Turkey's Defense Starts in Cyprus.''

GUL: WAR IS INEVITABLE
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul informed his party about the developments in Iraq. Gul defended the view that Turkey had to extend support to the U.S. for the long term interests of Turkey. Recalling that a new regime will be formed in Iraq after the war, Gul said that ''we will send the official note asking for authority for giving permission to upgrading of bases, to the parliament this week.

COMPUTERIZATION IN JUDICIARY
Justice Ministry will buy 20,000 computers to conclude many pending cases before the courts for years. With an investment of 160 million dollars, all the courts will be connected to other official institutions with a computer network in two years. Therefore, the written communication regarding the views of experts and criminal records will be carried out in a few seconds.

DENKTAS INVITES GUL TO TRNC
TRNC President Rauf Denktas attended a program at STV, a private tv channel, and he invited Prime Minister Abdullah Gul to TRNC at the end of the programme. Speaking in the tv programme, Denktas said that the aim of the Greek Cypriots was to make the Turkish army leave the island and to settle in the north of the island again.
