Cem Meets With Norwegian Parliamentary Delegation

ANKARA - New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem met with Norwegian Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Thorbjorn Jagland.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting which lasted for about one hour, Cem said that Norwegian delegation's contacts both with ruling and opposition parties were very important with respect to the two countries' knowing better each other and noted that the meeting was very beneficial.
Cem said that contacts helped the two countries know better their positions regarding Iraq issue and noted, ''we want to see peace in Iraq and Middle East. We hope Iraqi administration will fully abide by U.N. resolutions by assuming a sincere and rational attitude.''
Ismail Cem said that he believed that Iraq issue would be solved through peaceful ways, if the United States assumed a more sensitive attitude towards the issue.
Jagland said that they wanted to know better the new government during his contacts in Turkey and noted that Turkey and Norway were close allies.
Noting that Turkey was playing an important role in the region, Jagland said that this was very important for security in Norway and Europe.
Jagland said that his country shared similar views on Iraq issue with Turkey and stressed that Norway did not want to be involved in a military operation without U.N. resolution.
Jagland added that he hoped the issue will be solved through diplomatic ways without a military operation.
