Greek Cypriot Side Rejects Trnc's Proposals For Amendment To Annan's Plan

LEFKOSA - Meeting between President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides ended.
Denktas, who made a statement after the meeting, pointed out that the Greek Cypriot side rejected their proposals for amendment to the plan presented by U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan.
Denktas said the two sides decided to discuss ''sine qua nons'' on Monday.
When asked whether or not the Greek Cypriot side had replied the proposals of the Turkish side, Denktas said, ''they responded our proposals. They accept none of them. Refusal is the response that has been given.''
Responding a question if the Greek Cypriot side had made its request for changes in Annan's plan, Denktas said, ''they insist on the changes which they made earlier. There was a letter which they sent to the Secretary General. They are insisting on it. However they say, 'if the two sides have 40-50 paragraphs of changes, we should not insist on these but we should focus on the sine qua non things.''
Denktas said, ''on Monday, we will discuss these sine qua nons. Both sides pledged to fulfill these. Thus, we will carry out those studies.''
Replying another question if a third Annan plan was on the agenda at the current stage, Denktas said, ''there has been nothing like this on the agenda so far. We don't have information whether or not they will bring onto agenda a third plan.''
Denktas and Clerides will continue talks on Monday.
