Police On Alert Against Possibility Of Iraq War

ANKARA - Directorate General of Security released a decree and warned all provincial security departments that they should take tight measures against possibility of a U.S.-led military operation against Iraq.
Sources told the A.A correspondent that Directorate General of Security had sent this decree to all provincial security departments and ordered them to carry out preparatory works about a possible military operation against Iraq.
Under the decree, security measures at embassies, consulates, foreign representations, foreign facilities and dwellings of foreigners will be increased to the highest level.
Referring to last week's bomb attack on the building of the Supreme Court of Appeals, the decree stressed that terrorist organizations could stage acts of violence during or before a possible war.
Meanwhile, additional security measures will be taken in Ankara.
The measures will concentrate on Cankaya district where embassies and foreign representations take place.
Security forces set four thousand critical regions in Ankara where embassies, representations, foreign facilities, residences of foreigners and similar places are located.
Deputy Police Chief Ali Cetkin, who is responsible for coordination of security measures, said that terrorism and intelligence units had been preparing an urgent action plan.
