Erdogan: Greece Should Also Expend Efforts To Find A Solution

ANKARA - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at his meeting with Foreign Minister George Papandreou of Greece, the current term president of the European Union (EU), ''what I said about the Cyprus question is that Greece should also expend efforts to find a solution. They have the same desire.''
Addressing journalists following his meeting with Papandreou who came to Ankara to attend meeting of the EU Troika and to hold a series of contacts, Erdogan said, ''as you know, Greece is the current term president of the European Union. What I said about the Cyprus question at the meeting is that Greece should also expend efforts to find a solution. They have the same desire. The issue of Turkey's participation in the EU Convention was also brought onto agenda of the meeting. Mr. Papandreou told me that they would support us.''
When asked, ''is there a new map? You talked about a rate of 29 percent territory yesterday,'' Erdogan said, ''President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus talked about this proportion. The most positive map in the plan, which was presented to the sides in Cyprus by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, envisages 28.9 percent of territory. There is not any serious difference.''
