TWO DECISIONS IN ONE DAY
National Security Council (NSC) decided that the government should take authority from the parliament when admitting soldiers to Turkey and sending soldiers abroad after a critical meeting which lasted for six and a half hours. The declaration said that it was decided to advise the government on one hand to continue to search for peaceful ways concerning Iraq, and on the other hand to take necessary steps for making operational the military precautions that would be considered necessary to protect Turkey's national interests against unwelcomed developments.

DISAGREEMENT IN CYPRUS
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President and Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides could not reach agreement on changes which will be made in Annan's plan. Denktas said that the Greek Cypriot side did not accept even one of the changes which they wanted to make in Annan's plan during the negotiations. Denktas said that the Greek Cypriot side wanted to 'assemble' Turkish Cypriot people to ''Republic of Cyprus'' and added that Turkish Cypriot side wanted to sign a sound agreement which should be based on sovereignty.

HISTORICAL WARNING
The military asked for authority of war from the parliament:''Turkey can enter Northern Iraq due to its national interests.'' The historical meeting of the National Security Council lasted for 6.5 hours. The Council decided to recommend the government take necessary steps for making operational the military precautions that will be considered necessary to protect Turkey's national interests against unwelcomed developments. The military noted in the meeting that these measures had to be adopted by the parliament.

U.S. MODEL IN ECONOMY ADMINISTRATION
All concerned units about economy will be united under one ministry just in the case of the U.S. Treasury Department. State Planning Organization, Treasury, Foreign Trade, Customs, Privatization Administration and Finance Ministry will be united under one ministry according to the plan.

TURKEY-EU TROIKA MEETING
The European Union (EU) Troika convened at the ministerial level in Turkey for the first time. Prior to the meeting, Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis met with EU Commissioner Guenter Verheugen for enlargement in the breakfast. Besides Yakis and Verheugen, Foreign Minister George Papandreou of Greece, the current term president of the EU, and Prime Minister Franco Frattini of Italy, the next term president of the EU, attended the meeting. After the meeting, Verheugen met with Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Verheugen said they would increase financial aid and gave assurances that an additional criterion would not be put in the Accession Partnership Accord of Turkey.

GREEK DEFENSE MINISTER:''GIVE UP AEGEAN''
Greek Defense Minister Yiannos Papantoniou claimed that Turkey's joining the EU depended on its improving relations with Greece. Papantoniou asserted that ''the key of Turkey's EU membership is in the hands of Greece. Turkey has to contribute to the solution of Cyprus problem and give up its claims in the Aegean for Greece to help the EU process of Turkey.''

TROIKA PERSUADES YAKIS
The Troika meeting was held between Turkey and the EU for the first time at the foreign ministers level in Ankara. Foreign Minister Yakýs said that the government shared the views of EU about the Cyprus issue. Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou said in his part that the support to Turkey for the EU process would continue.

ACTIVE SUPPORT TO U.S. IN IRAQ
The National Security Council (NSC) determined the framework which Turkey would abide by regarding the Iraqi crisis:If Turkey can't get a result from its diplomatic initiatives, it will give active support to the international coalition led by the U.S. administration. Turkey will enter Iraq as a deterrent power for prevention of immigration and for regional stability. The Council determined the framework of the policy that has to be pursued in Iraq and gave the last word to the government on the issue.

DISAGREEMENT IN CYPRUS
TRNC President Rauf Denktas and Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides reciprocally rejected the proposals of amendment in the U.N. plan. The leaders decided to put their ''sine qua non's'' on the table on Monday.

ERDOGAN CAN RUN FOR ELECTIONS IN SIIRT
Mervan Gul, a candidate of Justice and Development Party (AK Party) from southeastern Siirt province, withdrew on Friday his candidacy for Siirt by-elections to be held on March 9. Gul submitted the petition to Higher Election Board (YSK). Thus, Mervan Gul lifted the obstacle in front of AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan to be a deputy candidate in the by-elections to be held in southeastern Siirt province by his resignation. Erdogan said, ''my party will take decision on my candidacy.''

TURKEY TARGETS TO BE MEMBER OF EU AT END OF 2003
Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis said that Turkey targeted to complete preparatory studies for fulfilment of Copenhagen criteria at the end of 2003. Yakis addressed a joint news conference following the EU Troika meeting. Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou said that Turkey's place was in Europe. Pointing out that the talks were ''beneficial'', Papandreou said they once again voiced that Turkey would expend support to the EU perspective. Stating that the reforms that would be made in Turkey would have a great influence on this process, Papandreou said it would be easier to make a decision after covering the implementations. Papandreou said the reforms would not only be beneficial to the EU process but to Turkish people.

TURKEY WANTS TURKISH WORKS OF ART IN IRAQ TO BE PROTECTED
Culture Ministry launched initiative for Turkish works of art in Iraq to be protected in case of a possible war in the region. The ministry applied to Foreign Ministry for protection of 74 Turkish works of art in Iraq. If the ministry's initiatives reach a result, a sign which can be seen from land and air will be put on the works of art.
