Westmacott Says They Are Impressed With Determination Of Justice Ministry To Modernize Prison System

ANKARA - British Ambassador to Turkey Peter Westmacott said on Thursday that they were impressed with the determination of the Justice Ministry to modernize prison system.
''Developing Strategies for Prisoner Programs'' seminar which was held by Justice Ministry and The British Council with the support of Human Rights Project Fund of British Office of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs started on Thursday at the Neva Palas Hotel in Ankara.
Speaking at the meeting, Westmacott said that the seminar was a part of a continuous program between British and Turkish officials which aimed to prepare Turkey to European Union (EU) membership.
Noting that the seminar would be beneficial for an EU which had Turkey as a member, and especially for Turkey, Westmacott said that Britain aimed to share its experiences with Turkey.
Westmacott said that they were impressed with the determination of Justice Ministry to modernize Turkish prison system under difficult conditions.
