Erdogan Receives Head Of European Jewish Congress Friedman

ANKARA - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan received on Thursday Michel Friedman, the head of European Jewish Congress.
Friedman told reporters after the meeting that he was pleased with the good relations between Jewish people and Turkey.
Noting that no other countries had such good relations with Jewish people, Friedman said that he had a frank and constructive meeting with Erdogan.
Friedman said that they talked about Iraqi issue in the meeting and they especially discussed how and when Turkey would start negotiations with the European Union (EU). He added that they respected steps and efforts of Turkey on the road to EU membership and they, as European Jewish people, would continue to support Turkey for getting a negotiation date in the coming period.
Friedman said that Turkey was a country where three main religions, Muslim, Judaism and Christianity, could exist in peace. He stated that they suggested that religious, political and academic leaders of those three religions would convene in Turkey, where a Muslim population was in majority, and would search for cooperation and dialogue.
He said that they expressed their wish to Erdogan and Erdogan welcomed that suggestion.
Noting that Turkey was a key country for European lands, Friedman said that it was an important country in strategical, political and religious senses.
