A Total Of 269 Aftershocks Recorded In Pulumur

ISTANBUL - A total of 269 aftershocks were recorded in Pulumur town of eastern Tunceli province following the massive earthquake which jolted the town early on Monday.
Officials at Bogazici University Kandilli Observatory Center and Seismology Institute said on Tuesday that 223 aftershocks measuring below 3.0 on the Richter scale rocked Pulumur between 7.26 a.m. on Monday and 9.03 a.m. on Tuesday.
The officials said that 46 aftershocks measuring between 3.0 and 4.2 on the Richter scale were recorded in the town following Monday's strong earthquake.
Aftershocks were normal and frequency and magnitude of those tremors would decrease in time, the officials noted.
Drawing the attention that an aftershock measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale could occur in the town, the officials called on citizens not to enter damaged buildings.
An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale jolted Pulumur at 7.26 a.m. on Monday, killing one person.
