''THESE TWO HAVE NOT SOLVED IT FOR TWENTY YEARS''
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan waged war against President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Glascos Clerides from Davos: ''these two have sit at the table in order not to solve the Cyprus issue for twenty years.'' At a meeting on ''Turkey At Crossroads'' in Davos, Erdogan criticized the two leaders with these words: ''how do you sit at negotiating table? When we sit at table we say, 'let's don't sit with pre-acceptances'. Also Greek Cypriots should not sit with pre-acceptances. This job is done if the sides sit at table to solve this issue.'' Erdogan continued, ''we opposed to the map, they came to Copenhagen with nine different maps. Later, De Soto came to Istanbul with sixteen maps. So different alternatives are proposed if they are negotiated.''

''SAY IT OPENLY IF THERE IS A CHANGE IN NATIONAL POLICY''
TRNC President Rauf Denktas gave harsh response to AK Party leader Erdogan who accused him of preventing a solution to Cyprus issue: ''Erdogan makes remarks without proper information. Such statements put me in a difficult position against the Greek Cypriots. if Turkey plans to give up its principles in our national case, and is ready to accept the plan of United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, it should tell us openly. This can't continue like this.''

''ENTER AND LEAVE'' PLAN
The General Staff and the U.S. military officials reached an agreement. It is now the parliament's turn to approve this. American troops will enter Iraq from the southeastern Habur Border Gate without being deployed in Turkey. If the parliament approves it, here is the ''Northern Front'' plan: ''American soldiers who will come to Turkey will be dispatched to Northern Iraq via Habur Border Gate by trains and vehicles without being deployed in Turkish territories. For the dispatch of troops, Mersin and Iskenderun ports, and Diyarbakir, Incirlik and Batman airports will be used. Centers will be formed in Habur and Nusaybin, two towns that are close to the border, to provide troops with logistic support. And an headquarters will be established in Diyarbakir for coordination of logistic centers.''

Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell in Davos, Switzerland. Powell said, ''be quick'' while Gul said, ''final decision will be taken by the parliament''.

A ''Turkish Night'' was organized in Davos, and it was hosted by Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Also Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreuo was among the guests.

OUR CHILDREN IN DANGER
Parents, be careful! This is not a game. A total of five hundred thousand children are living in the streets. Ninety thousand children commit crimes a year. Mafia makes children become addicted to committing crimes. According to official figures, the number of homeless children throughout Turkey increase over to five hundred thousand and crimes committed by these children boomed. Forty new lawsuits are filed a day only in courts in Istanbul. Three hundred and fifty children are staying in prison on charges of murder. The main reasons for this are poverty and parents' lack of interest in their child.

ISRAELI VICE-GENERAL IN NORTHERN PLAN
Sources said that also Israeli officials secretly participated as observer in planning meetings between the Turkish and U.S. General Staff officials about possible military operation against Iraq. Sources said that an Israeli vice-general had brought intelligence information about northern front to Ankara a few weeks ago.

HASAN SAS: ''DON'T WAIT FOR ME, I WENT''
Turkey World Cup star and Galatasaray's striker Hasan Sas sent this message to his club which called him for a meeting to renew his contract: ''I reached an agreement with a leading and famous European club and they deposited my transfer fee.'' Sources said Hasan Sas had agreed to play for FC Inter of Italy and he would most probably sign contract in June.

NOBODY WANTS WAR
The meeting among Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell focused on use of military bases in Turkey. At the meeting, Gul reiterated that they attributed great importance to international legitimacy for possible operation against Iraq said, ''we expressed all our concerns. Nobody wants war''. Stressing that war negatively affected particularly economy, Gul said, ''Iraq's integrity is important. Iraq's resources belong to Iraqi people. We don't want territory.'' Powell said they understood Turkey's legal process of response to the United States' demands.

YSK REJECTS REQUEST FOR CANCELLATION
The Higher Electoral Board (YSK) rejected the application of the Young Party (GP) and Labor Party (IP) and a citizen that requested cancellation of the general elections on November 3, 2002. In its reasoned statement, YSK said, ''there was not any precautionary decision of the Constitutional Court on Erdogan's leadership on November 3, 2002. Names of leaders of the political parties that attended the general elections were written in ballot in line with decision of the Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor's Office. Taking these into consideration, the YSK decided to reject the applications that requested cancellation of the general elections.''

TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE MARCH FOR PEACE
As the United States has been continuing its preparations for a possible military operation against Iraq, anti-militarist demonstrations were held in more than ten provinces of Turkey. One of the biggest demonstrations was held in southern province of Mersin. Nearly 30 thousand people attended the rally that was organized by the Labor Platform formed by 77 non-governmental organizations. Meanwhile, another rally was held in Istanbul with the participation of 3 thousand people.

WHAT DOES DENKTAS WANT?
President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) criticized statements of AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan. President Denktas said, ''Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis will pay a visit to the TRNC on Monday. What is Turkey's stance, I will ask this to him. I have carried on together with Turkey so far under encouragements of Turkey. Turkey has fully supported us till today. Now, if Turkey is ready to accept the plan of United Nations Secretary General Annan, it should tell us openly. Then someone else who would accept this, is found and this job is finished.'' President Denktas meant to say, ''make your preference: either Annan's plan or me''.

President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) reacted harshly to AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan who accused him of being prejudiced and delaying a solution on the island, saying, ''if you accept the plan of United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, then find somebody to sign it.''

GUL: ''POWELL UNDERSTOOD US''
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell in Davos, Switzerland. Following the meeting, Prime Minister Gul said, ''we expressed our concerns to the U.S. side. War is nobody's choice. We want peace.''

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell who met with Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Davos said that they were in difficult situation about Iraq issue. He said that they were aware of legal process in Turkey and that they had a better understanding of where process stands in Turkey. Meanwhile, Gul said that the United States welcomed Turkey's initiatives in the Middle East and they had agreed on the point of preferring a solution without war. Powell said they had an extensive discussion on use of military bases in Turkey and talks would continue.

''TURKEY SHOULD BE CAPITAL CITY OF PEACE''
A number of intellectuals especially from the United States, England and Israel came to Istanbul yesterday and extended open support to initiatives for peace in Iraq. Turkey is going to be the center of peaceful initiatives to prevent a possible war in Iraq. The National Cinema Platform held a ''no war'' march from Istiklal Avenue to Lutfi Kirdar Hall in Istanbul. The ''Assembly of 100'' headed by ''Peace Initiative'' convened in the Lutfi Kirdar yesterday. Especially foreign envoys of peace stressed in their speeches that Turkey has great responsibilities in stopping a war, and expressed their opinion, ''a war does not start in Iraq if Turkey insists on peace''. In its final statement, Assembly of 100 said, ''Turkey should be the capital city of peace.''
