ISTANBUL - Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis said on Friday that he exchanged views with German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer about the Iraqi crisis, Cyprus, and Turkey's EU membership process.
Yakýs and Fischer came together in Ciragan Palace in the morning.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Yakýs said that they discussed many issues. Fischer said in his part that they were pleased with the result of the Peace Summit held in Istanbul yesterday on Iraqi issue and the strong message that was given to Iraq.
Fischer said that Iraq has to understand that the situation is very serious, adding that the meeting is a clear message for peaceful solution of the crisis.
Fischer said that the meeting which was hosted by Turkey was very important and that it was held at the right time. Fischer said that they would continue to be in cooperation with Turkey, adding that they also talked about the process after the EU's Copenhagen summit with Yakýs.
Responding to questions of journalists asking if the issue of German foundations in Turkey and Cyprus issue were taken up in the meeting, Fischer said that Germany wanted the decisions taken in Copenhagen to be implemented. ''Cyprus is one of them...We want this case to be resulted in a positive way soon. The members of these foundations are real friends of Turkey. I personnaly know some of them and I know that they work for two countries' having positive relations.''
