ANKARA - The parliament adopted on Thursday the second EU adjustment package which permits re-trial of persons in line with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
Under the law, if a person who applied to ECHR, is found right, he/she can re-apply to the court in his/her country which found him/her guilty.
The law will go into force when it is published in the Official Gazette.
In addition to re-trial of persons, the imprisonment given to persons who set up relations with foreign associations and institutions without getting permission, who issue statements on behalf of an institution without getting the decision of the executive board, who don't get permission to issue statements, is changed into fine changing between one billion TL to three billion TL.
Addressing the parliament after the adoption of the law, Justice Minister Cicek said that a total of 4820 cases (2250 of them from Greek Cypriot side) were filed against Turkey at ECHR to date, adding that 286 of the cases were concluded against Turkey and 12 of them were in favour of Turkey. Cicek said that friendly settlement was reached in 513 cases and 107 of the cases were found inadmissible.
