IRON LADY'S PRESCRIPTION
International Monetary Fund (IMF) First Deputy Managing Director Anne Krueger, who came to Turkey by saying that ''she wanted to see what had happened'', left behind a list of tightening belt measures when returning. The list which will be discussed at the Higher Planning Board that will convene on Saturday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Abdullah Gul includes, ''use of cheaper medicine instead of expensive medicine.''

''IRAQ WOULD BE BOMBED IF WE DID NOT EXIST''
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul explained demands of the United States regarding Iraqi issue and Turkey's position to leaders of the political parties that are not represented at the parliament. Gul said, ''if the government did not exert these efforts and if we said yes to demands of the United States, Iraq would already be bombed.'' Gul noted that the United States took a backward step from its demands and said, ''they were saying that they would send 100-120 thousand soldiers to Turkey now, they are talking about sending 20-25 thousand.'' The prime minister said that he sent a message to Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein that ''the region would be damaged in the event of a war and that Hussein would be responsible for this.''

FLEET WITHOUT INVITATION
Reason of ''pre-consent'' demand of the United States has become clear. Fleet carrying equipment is awaiting a permission to approach to the Mediterranean for four days. The reason of the U.S. administration's message that ''give pre-consent and we complete our initiatives. You will make the political decision later'' is the wish to complete war preperations. ARo-Ro fleet carrying military equipment of the United States entered international waters of the Mediterranean four days ago.

SECOND VETO TO ERDOGAN
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer vetoed the law which lifted restrictions regarding the punishment given to Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan under Article 312 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). Sezer's veto of law which suspends crimes committed through press will not affect Erdogan.

HE MADE EMERGENCY LANDING
The Turkish Airlines (THY) Airbus A-340 plane carrying Erdogan and an accompanying delegation had a technical failure after it took off from Shanghai. The plane which was en route from Shanghai to Turkey made an emergency landing at Beijing Airport.

SABAH (LIBERAL)

REJECTION TO OTTOMAN SUMMIT
Egypt and Syria are against the summit proposed to be held by Turkey in Istanbul with participation of five regional countries. The reason is very funny: ''Since Istanbul was the capital of the Ottoman Empire, this summit will not be appropriate due to historical reasons.''

BRAKE FROM CANKAYA TO UNITED STATES
Limited permission was given to demands of Washington at a meeting held in Cankaya Presidential Palace in which possible U.S. operation against Iraq was taken up. However, the issue will be discussed by chiefs of general staff of the two countries in a more detailed way.

HOPES HAVE NOT EXHAUSTED
Summit of the state discussed the response that would be given to the military demands of Washington administration prior to the visit of Gen. Richard Myers, the U.S. Chief of General Staff. At the summit, it was decided to continue the peaceful solution efforts.
Stressing that it was not indecisive, Ankara said it could only expend ''limited support'' on condition that the United States provides international legitimacy in possible operation against Iraq.

PKK-KADEK TRY TO INFILTRATE SOME OF ITS ELEMENTS TO TURKEY AGAIN
Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) completed its preparations in the border against infiltrations from terrorist PKK-KADEK organization.
TSK intensified its activities at the beginning of the week in line with the information taken, and started to launch operations in the region that is in northern and northeastern part of southeastern Diyarbakir province.

TURKEY HAS LIMITS
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, and Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok discussed Iraqi policy on Friday.
Ankara evaluated the developments regarded with Iraq before visit of Myers. The United States has not yet taken a decision. The U.N. resolution is necessary for operation. Turkey may give limited support to any operation that would be launched against a neighboring country.
At the summit, it was stated that ''ways of peace have not exhausted'' and that the U.N. decision was necessary for an operation.

BAYKAL: SOLUTION WITHOUT WAR
Republican People's Party (CHP) expended support to the efforts for the solution of Iraqi crisis without war. Baykal said, ''Turkey should take assignment in case there is a facility to prevent military intervention.''
Baykal said, ''if Turkey is to continue its cooperation regarded with a military intervention against Iraq, the issue would absolutely be brought to the Parliament.''

ERDOGAN GETS THROUGH DANGER
The plane, carrying Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the businessmen, made emergency landing on Beijing due to a failure in the device which balances cabin pressure after flying for almost three hours.
The delegation returned to Turkey at night after the plane was repaired. Prime Minister Abdullah Gul called Erdogan on the phone and got information.

DISTRESSING PRESSURE
As on the one side Turkey continues peace diplomacy to prevent war in its region, on the other side it tries to respond to the intense pressures of the United States. A crowded delegation comprised of the U.S. senators will be in an effort to give assurances to Turkey with credits to convince Turkey following the visit of the U.S. Chief of General Staff Gen. Richard Myers.

ZAMAN (CONSERVATIVE)

MIDNIGHT CALL FROM SOLANA TO GUL: ''WE TAKE YOUR EFFORTS FOR PEACE AS EXAMPLE''
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul told Zaman that efforts for a solution to Iraqi issue without any need for war were appreciated by European Union (EU) defense chief Javier Solana and noted, ''Solana called me at night. He said that they were also thinking of going to regional countries to hold contacts for peace.''

TURKEY TO PROPOSE KINGDOM TO SADDAM
Turkey, the ''neighbours summit'' proposal of which has been welcomed for a solution to Iraqi issue without any need for a war, is getting prepared to propose a status similar to kingdom to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Sources said that Saddam Hussein will be the spiritual leader of his people but all his authorities will be taken from him if the proposal is accepted. Iraq's neighbours Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria and Iran were warm towards the proposal to hold a summit in Istanbul while Jordan is said to accept the proposal immediately. Jordan will give its official response to the Foreign Ministry on Monday.
