ANKARA - State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, government spokesman Abdullatif Sener said on Wednesday that any development that could occur regarding Iraqi issue would not affect their economic targets.
Following the Council of Ministers meeting, Sener told reporters that the government was determined to achieve their economic targets.
Sener said that they debated public management reform during the meeting and reviewed bureaucratic hurdles.
A commission was formed under chairmanship of State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin to work on public management reform, Sener noted.
Sener stated that the commission would complete its studies within a month and inform the Council of Ministers.
They also took up the bill on cheque law prepared by the Justice Ministry, Sener pointed out.
Sener said that the bill was opened to signature and would be sent to parliament in a short time.
They also took up problems of agricultural sector, Sener noted.
Sener stressed that the Council of Ministers thought that agricultural reforms were important and animal breeding should be encouraged.
A meeting would be held in coming days under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and with participation of Treasury Undersecretariat, State Planning Organization (DPT) and Finance Ministry officials in order to list concrete problems of agricultural sector, Sener said.
Sener noted that Central Bank Governor Sureyya Serdengecti informed the Council of Ministers about monetary policy and macro economic figures.
Current economic policies were ensuring macro economic targets, Sener said.
Sener said that targets for 2002 had been achieved and pointed out that the inflation rate was in the lowest level of the last 20 years.
Inflation target for 2003 was 20 percent, Sener noted and stated that this target would be achieved with the economic policies that were being implemented.
Sener added that the government was determined to keep economic targets irrespective of what the conditions were.
