Baykal: Foreign Policy Of A Country Has Never Become So Saddening Like This

ANKARA - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal criticized Cyprus policy of the government saying, ''foreign policy of a country has never become so saddening like this.''
Speaking at the group meeting of the CHP, Baykal said on Tuesday, ''the governments untidiness, inconsistency and irregularity were also seen on the Cyprus question. There are some contradictory statements about Cyprus policy of Turkey recently. Lately, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Cyprus policy of Turkey had been changing. He said that reason of this change was the plan which was presented to the sides in Cyprus by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan. This plan is not the first plan on the Cyprus question. We do not have any information whether it would be the last plan. It has not taken its final shape yet. If one says that the foreign policy of Turkey will be changed according to a plan which is not certain yet, it means that they cannot change the plan, therefore they change the policy. Turkish foreign policy cannot be changed in accordance with some plans. In fact, Turkish policy should lead these plans.''
''Current attitude of the government is saddening. The government has left its national Cyprus policy aside, and begun to search for a new policy in accordance with pressures. What does the government target? Does it want to refute existing policy by saying that the policy which has not been argued by official organs yet, was changed. Foreign policy of a country has never become so saddening like this. The Republic of Turkey has never followed such an untidy foreign policy,'' he added.
