Exports Of Ready-made Clothing Rise 22.7 Percent In 2002

ISTANBUL - Exports from the ready-made clothing sector rose 22.7 percent to 9 billion 183 million U.S. dollars in 2002.
The Turkish Clothing Manufacturers' Association (TGSD) held a press conference on Tuesday and publicly announced results of an evaluation report on ''2002 year ready-made clothing and textiles sectors''.
According to the report, total exports from Turkey in 2002 increased 16.6 percent to 36 billion 205 million U.S. dollars.
In the January-December 2002 period, total exports of textiles rose 4 percent to 2 billion 979 million U.S. dollars.
Exports of ready-made clothing to Spain rose 47.3 percent to 99 million 104 thousand U.S. dollars; exports of ready-made clothing to Denmark increased 43.5 percent to 150 million 989 thousand U.S. dollars and exports of ready-made clothing to Britain climbed 38.2 percent to 1 billion 18 million 461 thousand U.S. dollars.
Exports of textiles to Russia increased 57.6 percent to 82 million 404 thousand U.S. dollars. Russia was followed by Romania with a 48.4 percent increase in exports of textiles. Meanwhile, exports of textiles to Italy decreased 23.3 pecrent to 230 million 465 thousand U.S. dollars.
According to the report, total exports of ready-made clothing and textiles which had been 778 million U.S. dollars in 1980 increased 1,463 percent to 12.2 billion U.S. dollars after 22 years.
