BLACK BOX'S SECRET FOUND OUT: PILOTAGE MISTAKE
CVR, the Cockpit Voice Recorder, which is one of the black boxes of the Turkish Airlines airplane which crashed in Diyarbakýr on Jan. 8, has been listened and examined. It has been confirmed that the accident took place due to the mistake of the pilots. The accident took place as the pilot moved the plane below 2800 feet although he could not see the runway due to the fog.

WHEN TUSIAD CRITICIZES GOVERNMENT, GUL CALLS TUSIAD CHAIRMAN
When Tuncay Ozilhan, the Chairman of the Association of Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen (TUSIAD) criticized the Iraqi policy of the government in Iraq and said that Turkey should not be with totalitarian regimes in a live broadcast, Prime Minister Abdullah Gul immediately called Ozilhan. Gul told Ozilhan in their telephone talk that the Iraqi issue should not be discussed in an economy meeting. Ozilhan said in his part the visit of the trade delegation headed by State Minister Kursat Tuzmen to Iraq was not very appropriate.

GHOSTS COMING
The 150-member U.S. delegation which came to southern province of Adana will carry out work on deployment of ''ghost plane'' F-117 and bombardment plane B-2 in Turkey. Stealth fighter F-117 and stealth bomber B-2 can destroy most intense defense fronts without being observed by radars. The U.S. delegation which was waiting in Germany for Turkey's approval reached Incirlik yesterday after modus operandi. The delegation reviewed the site-survey program in Incirlik together with General Staff officers. Sources said that the delegation will separate into groups and start inspecting Diyarbakir, Batman, Malatya Erhac, Corlu and Mus airports and Mersin and Iskenderun ports. The delegation will finish these within ten days and prepare reports. Following these reports, reconstruction is planned to be completed within 45 days with a 300 million U.S. dollars investment.

FIRST AIR SHIELD, THEN PATRIOTS
An infrastructure work has been initiated in Diyarbakir and Malatya air bases on installation of ''Air Defense Shield''. It was mentioned that Americans had set up satellite communication system in these bases, which constituted a step before deployment of patriot missiles. Similar works had been carried out before the Gulf operation in 1991.

MYERS DUE IN
U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Richard Myers will come to Ankara on January 19 to seek response to Washington's demand for ''cooperation against Saddam''. Myers who will come together with General Staff Chief General on January 20 will bring their expectations from the Turkish government and problem about the time-table onto the agenda again.

PRIME MINISTER GUL CONVEYS MESSAGE TO GEN. OZKOK
Following the crisis that took place regarding the Higher Military Board's decision, Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok met each other yesterday. Gul informed Gen. Ozkok about the message of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein which was brought by State Minister Kursat Tuzmen. Gul also explained his impressions about the contacts he had in the Middle East countries. Gen. Ozkok in his part expressed uneasiness about the words of First Iraqi Vice President Taha Yasin Ramadan targeting Turkey during State Minister Tuzmen's visit to Iraq.

SEZER:''NEW PAGE HAS BEEN OPENED''
Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Al-Shara came to Ankara yesterday and conveyed the message of Syrian President Bashar Al-Asad to President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. The message of Al-Asad which was submitted to President Sezer noted that Syria wanted to improve its relations with Turkey in all fields. A statement was issued from the Presidential Office after the visit of Al Shara saying that ''the difficulties seen in the bilateral relations were left behind, and a new page has been opened between Turkey and Syria.''

DAMASCUS: LET'S FIND A SOLUTION TOGETHER
While conveying the message of Syrian President Bashar Al-Asad to President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Al-Shara stressed that Turkey and Syria have common concerns in the region. ''We share the same concerns about the Iraqi issue, we won't have difficulty in reaching common results with Turkey,'' he said. Shara said that an operation against Iraq will be a war that will cover the whole region and it will affect the future of the region.

DEMONSTRATION TO BE HELD IN TRNC TODAY
The opposition parties in TRNC will organize a demonstration to extend support to Annan's plan. The opposition which wants TRNC President Rauf Denktas to sign Annan's plan, aims to gather 80,000 persons in Lefkosa today. Police took tight security measures in Lefkosa as certain persons were threatened and the car of a labour union leader was burnt in an arson attack last week.

150 U.S. OFFICIALS COME TO TURKEY
Following the end of Prime Minister Abdullah Gul's visit to the Middle East countries to find a peaceful solution to the Iraqi problem, a U.S. delegation of 150 persons came to Turkey for site survey in airbases and ports of Turkey. The delegation will examine the airports in Diyarbakýr, Malatya, Batman, Mus, Corlu; and ports of Mersin and Iskenderun. The site survey will last for ten days.

MESSAGE FROM SADDAM
State Minister Kursat Tuzmen who went to Baghdad conveyed the message of Prime Minister Abdullah Gul to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Prime Minister Gul said in his message that ''we expect Iraq to take steps which won't put the region into fire.'' The response of Saddam has been ''don't make cooperation with the U.S.''

GIANT OPERATION
Big institutions like the Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB), Halk Bankasi and National Lottery Administration will be put up for sale. Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener who announced operation state narrowing said that their government would achieve this year at least half of the 8 billion U.S. dollars of privatization in last 17 years. Sener added that they were also carrying out a work on prevention of unemployment of 64 thousand workers in those state enterprises that would be privatized. ''We will privatize them at any cost. This privatization program is an expression of our government's determination. This is not our party's policy but its is a state policy.'' These will be sold: ''Petkim, Gerkonsan, TAKSAN, TZDK, SEKA, Sumer Holding, Eti Copper, Karadeniz Copper, Atakoy Marine, IMKB, Gold Exchange, National Lottery, TDI, IGSAS, Istanbul Strait Bridges, Motorways, Halk Bankasi, TUPRAS, TEKEL, THY, Treasury lands.''

TOP SPEED PERMIT TO FOREIGNERS
According to a draft bill presented to the parliament, foreigners can apply to the relevant ministry for information instead of getting permission for an investment and they can make investment. Besides, they can invest in every sector and transfer money to abroad freely.

AKSU: ''IT IS JUST AN ALLEGATION TO SAY TWO BRITISH CITIZENS WERE MI5 SPIES''
Replying questions about the two British citizens who were killed in plane crash in Diyarbakir on January 8, Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu said, ''it is just allegation to say that those British citizens were MI5 spies. We have not received such an information''.

TSK: ''THERE IS NOT CONFLICT OF OPINION WITH THE GOVERNMENT''
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul came together with General Staff Chief General Hilmi Ozkok and they took up latest developments about Iraq issue. Sources said that Ozkok told Gul that news reports about ''indecision'' regarding the Iraq issue had upset the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). At the meeting, it was affirmed that there was a full consensus of opinion and coordination between the TSK and the government about the Iraq issue.

ARINC: ''TURKS ARE NOT THE ONLY SOURCE OF PROBLEM IN CYPRUS''
In a period during which there are serious debates on the U.N.'s Cyprus plan, Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc visited the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) together with 20 parliamentarians from the power and opposition parties. Noting that neither the Turkish Cypriots nor Turkey were the responsible side for the Cyprus issue, Arinc said, ''the responsible people are those who are trying to annihilate the Turkish Cypriots.'' Meanwhile, TRNC President Rauf Denktas received Arinc. Speaking at the meeting, Denktas said that even a single Turkish Cypriot would not exist in Cyprus ten years later if U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan was accepted.
