BAGHDAD - State Minister Kursad Tuzmen was received by Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Sunday.
A written message of Prime Minister Abdullah Gul was given to Hussein in the meeting which lasted for about two hours and 20 minutes.
Following the meeting, Tuzmen said that the meeting was very beneficial with respect to development of cooperation between Turkey and Iraq.
Sources said that Hussein expressed his pleasure over relations between the two countries at the meeting and quoted Hussein as saying that those relations should be further improved.
Sources also quoted Hussein as saying that he had determination to do his utmost to improve relations between the two countries.
It was stated in the meeting that cooperation should be made in economic, social and cultural fields and that the regional countries should develop together. Sources said that the development of Iraq, Turkey, Arab countries and neighboring countries together to improve prosperity of the region was brought onto the agenda at the meeting.
Tuzmen had earlier said that the message explained the situation of Turkey and Iraq, and the things that could be done for regional peace.
