MUGLA - The number of tourists who visited western Mugla province and its vicinity increased 13 percent to 2,110,505 in 2002 when compared to the previous year.
Mugla Governor Huseyin Aksoy told the A.A correspondent on Sunday that 1,899,279 foreign tourists came to Mugla and added that 687,787 British tourists visited the province to spend their holidays in 2001.
Aksoy said that 719,066 British tourists visited Mugla and its vicinity in 2002 and added that Britain was ranked the first among the countries which sent tourists to the region in 2002.
Stating that Germany, the Netherlands, Israel, Australia, France and Greece followed Britain, Aksoy added that the number of tourists could be increased to 2.5-3 million with a good promotion.
