LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu said on Saturday that an impression as if Turkish Cypriot people were divided into two sides: those who want an agreement, peace and EU membership and those who don't, was created due to the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan on Cyprus and added that this impression was not true and everyone wanted to reach an agreement on the issue.
Eroglu stated that although everyone wanted to reach an agreement, peace EU membership their thought was to improve parts of Annan's plan by negotiating it and to sign it if the desired changes were made in the plan.
Stating that Turkish Cypriot side should have a powerful deal at the negotiation table for changes to be made in the plan in favor of Turkish Cypriot people, Eroglu said that there should be unity among Turkish Cypriot people for a powerful deal.
Eroglu who visited Inonu and Vadili villages with a delegation including TRNC Finance Minister Mehmet Bayram, TRNC Agriculture and Forestry Minister Irsen Kucuk, deputies and some high level officials informed the people about Annan's plan.
Noting that TRNC wanted a lasting agreement, Eroglu said that they were explaining positive and negative parts of Annan's plan to the people, since TRNC aimed Turkish Cypriot people to cast vote by knowing the facts in a referendum which could be held one day.
Eroglu said that TRNC's entering EU was acceptable for them after necessary changes were made in the plan and an agreement was signed and noted that but no body should want Turkish Cypriot side to sign the Annan's plan without negotiating it.
Stating that everyone wanted agreement and peace, Eroglu said that Greek Cypriot people's supporting rallies which were held under principles of democracy was in a way an intervention in internal affairs of TRNC.
Eroglu said that if Greek Cypriot people wanted a solution, they should encourage Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides to act in a more flexible way at the negotiation table rather than supporting rallies in TRNC.
Eroglu said that Clerides would sit at the negotiation table in a powerful way as 86 percent of Greek Cypriot people don't accept Annan's plan and added that TRNC President Rauf Denktas's deal was weakened by rallies calling him to 'sign it or go'.
Stating that the map which was foreseen in the plan foresees to give the most productive lands of TRNC to Greek Cypriot side, Eroglu said that this should be evaluated with all of its aspects. He added that Annan's plan did not have an economic dimension.
