KABUL - Kabul University's printing centre which was repaired by the Turkish soldiers of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, opened in a ceremony on Saturday.
Afghan State Minister in charge of education Zalmay Hevatnal, Kabul University's Rector Muhammed Akbar Popal, ISAF Commander Gen. Hilmi Akýn Zorlu, Turkish Ambassador to Afghanistan Mufit Ozdes and many military, civilians and other officials attended the ceremony.
Afghan Rector Popal said that Turkey contributed to the education in Afghanistan not only during its ISAF term presidency, but for a long time. Popal said that ''we regard Turkey not as a country that helps Afghanistan, but as a sister country. Our difficulties ended by the opening of the centre.''
Gen. Zorlu said in his part that the future of Afghanistan is promising, adding that the difficulties which ruined the country stemmed from lack of education. Zorlu stated that the Afghan students should have pens rather than guns in their hands.
The printing centre in the campus of Kabul University which was earlier destroyed, was repaired by Turkish soldiers of ISAF. Turkey gave three computers, three printers, three photocopy machines, one fax machine to the centre. The repair of the centre started on October 4, 2002 and ended on January 9, 2003 and it cost 24,000 U.S. dollars.
