Baykal: Parliament Has To Become Part Of Iraqi Issue

ANKARA - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal claimed on Saturday that the government does not act consistent in its policies.
Responding to questions of journalists before a CHP meeting, Baykal said that the government gave a decision about U.S. experts' carrying out inspections in bases of Turkey, adding ''this is possible legally, but the parliament has to become part of the decisions to be taken from now on.''
Baykal claimed that the government gives up economic targets gradually, adding that there is tension in foreign policy. ''Unfortunately the government showed that it is not ready for being the ruling party. The government's personnel are not sufficiently qualified,'' Baykal commented.
Upon a question, Baykal said that ''the parliament has to take decisions in Iraqi issue in the further stages. If a cooperation is made, the framework of this cooperation has to be clarified. The threats and dangers Turkey will face for making cooperation have to be clarified. The government has to make clear its attitude.''
Baykal said that he will visit Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok and commanders on January 13 about Cyprus issue, adding that a common understanding among state institutions has to be formed. ''State institutions have to be in solidarity for our national targets,'' he said.
