ASKANA - AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan assessed the recent statements of General Hilmi Ozkok, the Chief of General Staff and asserted that ''these are issues of political tension.''
''There is no need to speak about them. Our people don't accept political tension, on the contrary they reject it. We won't be part of tension,'' said Erdogan responding to questions of journalists about daily politics.
Upon a question about the EU adjustment package, Erdogan hoped the law to be beneficial for everybody. ''These steps are important both for Turkey and also for fulfillment of Copenhagen criteria,'' said Erdogan.
When asked if he would become a candidate in the elections to be re-held in Siirt to become the member of the parliament, Erdogan said that ''it is not possible to give a decision about this issue before January 20.''
Upon a question about the statements of Gen. Ozkok, Erdogan said that ''these are issues which will be discussed in Turkey, I don't want to talk about them abroad as if I am sending a message to Turkey... The country today has more important problems. The most important issue of Turkey today is economy...We must discuss the ways of increasing income per capita.''
