ANKARA - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that Turkey will assume the most appropriate and realistic attitude for the country and region concerning Iraq.
Erdogan said in Parliamentary Group meeting that Turkey had an intensive agenda, adding that all institutions and organizations of the state, politicians, bureaucrats and academicians were exerting efforts to turn the developments into positive.
Recalling that he will start Central Asian countries tour with a group of deputies, businessmen and reporters in the afternoon, Erdogan said that those tours have started just after November 3 elections and he added that their aim is to make Turkey an attractive country in political and security aspects, while increasing foreign trade with neighboring countries and all the countries in the world.
Erdogan said that they believe that if Turkey continuously develops stable and dynamic trade relations with neighbors and other countries in the world, this will provide an opportunity to set up a security system in borders and region.
Evaluating Prime Minister Abdullah Gul's Middle Eastern countries tour, Erdogan said that Gul is carrying on high ranking diplomatic contacts to show that peace hope has not ended yet among neighboring countries about Iraq.
Concerning Turkey's attitude about Iraq, he said, ''In conformity with the central importance and state experience Turkey has had throughout the history, our country will assume the most appropriate and realistic attitude for itself and our region. We are in favor of peace, justice and equity. All we want is that no families should be destroyed and no new pains should be experienced. Middle Eastern people who suffered the most should not experience a new tension and opportunity for peace in the region should not be endangered.
