ANKARA - Natural gas pipeline foreseen to be constructed between Turkey and Greece for transportation of Caspian basin sources is planned to be extended till Italy.
Project for beginning of studies on extension of the line till Italy will be carried out under the terms of the memorandum of understanding signed between Pipeline Transportation Inc. (BOTAS) and Italian gas company.
In case studies are concluded positively under the agreement, pipeline to become operational between Turkey and Greece in coming years will be extended till Italy. Cost of the project will be estimated after feasibility works.
Meanwhile, sources said that feasibility works on pipeline to be constructed between Turkey and Greece had been completed.
Under the project which is expected to cost almost 300 million U.S. dollars, detailed engineering work will be carried out after signing of the protocol.
The pipeline will be 285 kilometers long. It will start from Bursa Karacabey, pass through Canakkale Strait, and reach Greek border.
Greece will be transported natural gas as of 2005.
A total of 500 million cubic meters of natural gas is foreseen to be transported to Greece at the first stage.
