OUR MOSUL-KIRKUK SCENARIO READY
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said, ''if a new formation other than we want in Mosul and Kirkuk happens, of course, we have our own dreams and scenarios.'' ''We have to think of every probability of future use of Mosul and Kirkuk oil resources. Everybody can have scenarios and dreams about the region. I don't have any sympathy towards Saddam Hussein. He is an autocrat person who oppresses his people for years. He pushed his country into a war with Iran and 1 million people died.'' ''I cannot tell how many soldiers we have in Northern Iraq. But, I can say that we have a 'de facto' position there. We will solve this issue without offending the United States.'' ''Turkey is not an emirate or kingdom. There is a parliament and the effect of the parliament is gradually increasing. We will hold a secret session in coming days and we will try to convince the parliament.''

ONE CONVICT IN SWISS HOTEL RAID CASE
Twelve people, who raided Swiss Hotel in Istanbul and took hostage hotel guests for 12 hours last year, were acquitted in the lawsuit filed on charges of forming ''gang.'' Muhammed Emin Tokcan was sentenced to 11 years and 10 months of imprisonment in this case.

WE DIDN'T EAT AND DRINK
Turkish people tightened belts in the real sense in 2002. Our food expenditures decreased by 5.3 percent and our spending on cleaning materials fell by 16.2 percent in 2002 when compared with the previous year. A survey carried out in 12 cities and in 3,200 houses took into consideration market shopping of people. According to the survey, spending of people decreased by 6.7 percent.

JET FADIL NAILED DOWN
Fadil Akgunduz's dream lasted very short. Firstly, his deputyship was cancelled and then he was imprisoned. Now, the Supreme Court upheld his two-year imprisonment sentence. Thus, he cannot run his candidacy for deputyship in the elections to be held in Siirt province in February 2003.

PRIME MINISTER'S MESSAGE: ''WE WILL NOT BE SPECTATOR OF WAR''
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul is uneasy about the atmosphere that ''we are entering into a war.'' The frame that is drawn from Gul's words is this: We will meet at ''a common point'' with the United States. Turkey will never be a spectator of war if a war erupts. If Iraq's unitary structure is not protected, Turkey will have the right to comment on how oil will be used.

BARZANI TO GET A SERIOUS WARNING IN ANKARA
Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (IKDP) leader Massoud Barzani, who is reluctant to come to Turkey for two years, will come to Ankara at the beginning of January. Barzani will be received by Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis. A high-ranking diplomat said, ''we did not like the stance he assumed in London Conference. We will clearly warn him.''

MYERS DUE IN TURKEY TO MEET WITH GENERAL STAFF
The United States continues to hold consultations with Turkey for a possible operation on Iraq. U.S. Chief of General Staff Richard Myers will come to Turkey at the beginning of January. When Myers will pay a visit to Turkey is not definite yet. Myers will meet with officials of the General Staff.

TURKEY WILL WORK FOR PEACE
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul emphasized that Turkey is not a kingdom or an emirate and said that all the requests of the United States cannot be responded positively. Considering Saddam Hussein as a cruel dictator towards his people, Gul said that Iraq issue is evaluated by Presidency, government and General Staff Headquarters jointly. He added that Turkey has scenarios about Kirkuk-Mosul resources.

UNITED STATES DID NOT SIGN MEMORANDUM FOR BASES AND PORTS
Turkey requested ''written contract'' for eliminating possible damages and ''implementation memorandum'' for usage of bases in high-ranking meetings with Bush administration. Also a protocol was prepared concerning legal conditions of U.S. soldiers. However, the United States has not responded yet. The meetings will continue in January while the United States is considering alternatives except an official document.

AMNESTY CRACK IN GOVERNMENT
AK Party ministers are uneasy about enlargement of scope of discipline amnesty, which was proposed by Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputies to be made in universities, in the parliamentary sub-commission.

SAME ROAD KILLS 11 PEOPLE
An icy road in central Yozgat province claimed lives of 11 people. A bus en route from Igdir to Ankara fell down from the bridge, killing 11 passengers. Two lorries and a bus had an accident in the same road.

MERVAN GUL PAVES WAY
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputy Mervan Gul presented her resignation to his leader to pave the way for deputyship of AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan from southeastern Siirt province.

''WAY FOR JUDGEMENT OF YAS DECISIONS SHOULD BE PAVED''
Deputy Prime Minister Ertugrul Yalcinbayir said that work related with decisions of the Supreme Military Council (YAS) about dismissal of military personnel was being carried out. Yalcinbayir said that they were working on especially making YAS decisions about dismissal of military personnel under control of judgement.

GUL REQUESTED MEDIA TO BE SENSITIVE IN WAR NEWS
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, who met with editor in chiefs of national newspapers, requested them to be more sensitive about news related with a possible war. Noting that unfounded news are harmful for economy, Gul said that even the United States has not decided yet.

ERDOGAN WAS CHOSEN MOST SUCCESSFUL POLITICIAN OF 2002
The United States based Academy of Achievemen decided to give ''Success Honor Award'' to Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is considered as the most successful politician of the world in 2002. Erdogan is invited to Washington as guest of honor for the meeting of Academy which will be held between May 1 and 3.
