Erdogan: We Cannot Favour The Government's Taking A Decision Regarding Iraqi Issue Other Than The Decision Of The Parliament

GUNEYSU - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that they could not favour the government's taking a decision regarding Iraqi issue other than the decision of the parliament.
Erdogan told reporters that Turkey was exerting efforts for peace and went on saying, ''if there are mass destructive weapons in Iraq today, Turkey is the first country which will be threatened with the existence of these weapons. To this end, Turkey has to be more sensitive and we are sensitive. We have told our natural ally the United States what is required to be said. We are doing our best for a peace. We are saying that we favour solution of the issue peacefully. We hope that it will be solved peacefully.''
''United Nations (U.N.) weapons inspectors will work till January 26. We have to see their reports. Of course, we will more clearly see the incidents and I think that the government will make good use of this process,'' Erdogan said.
Erdogan pointed out that the parliament would hold a closed session on the issue and went on saying, ''there will also be deliberations with the non-governmental organizations. But, the parliament will make the final decision. We cannot favour the government's taking a decision regarding this issue other than the decision of the parliament.''
''We will have a meeting in Ankara at the weekend to learn the views of our party. We will inform the government about the final decision of our party after this meeting,'' Erdogan added.
Erdogan hoped that the new year would solve all the problems.
