ANKARA - President Ahmet Necdet Sezer ratified on Tuesday the law on amendment of some articles of the constitution.
A Presidential Press Center statement said that Sezer had returned the law which was adopted on December 13, 2002 to the parliament on December 19, 2002 to be debated once more.
The statement noted that Sezer sent the law which was adopted in its current shape by the parliament on December 27, 2002 to the Prime Ministry to be issued in the Official Gazette.
The law reduces restrictions before being elected as a deputy. Under the amendment, a by-elections can be held if there is no representative of a city or election area left in the parliament. The law foresees holding by-elections on the first Sunday 90 days after there is not any representatives of a certain city left in the parliament.
The law says that by-elections will be held separately from local elections.
The provision of the Article 67 of the Constitution which says that ''amendments to the election laws cannot be put into practice in the elections to be held within a year as of the amendments take effect'' will not be valid in the first by-elections to be held in the 22nd legislative term.
