ANKARA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said on Sunday that Cyprus issue was not an obstacle to Turkey's membership to European Union (EU).
Denktas, who was in Ankara for sometime for health control, left Ankara for TRNC.
Speaking before his departure, Denktas said he felt sorrow over the incidents which occurred due to the lack of authority as he was not in his office during the most active periods of Cyprus issue. Denktas said he has full confidence in TRNC people and full belief in Cyprus case.
Denktas said both Turkey and the TRNC were kept under pressure for years saying that, ''Cyprus is an obstacle in front of Turkey's EU full membership'', stressing that, ''Cyprus issue is not an obstacle for Turkey's EU membership. There are the interests and reasons of some other countries.''
