Parliament's Decision On Extension Of Operation Northern Watch Published In Official Gazette

ANKARA - Parliament's decision to extend mandate of the Operation Northern Watch for another six months beginning from December 31, 2002 was published in the Official Gazette on Friday.
The decision extends life of the Operation Northern Watch for another six months beginning from December 31, 2002.
The Operation Northern Watch is defined as a force charged with enforcing the no-fly zone north of the 36th parallel in Iraq and monitoring Iraqi compliance with United Nations Security Council resolutions. It has been carried out by the U.S. and British air units. It was put into practice under the authority given to the government by Parliament in 1996 in line with principles and rules determined by Turkey. It is restricted with reconnaissance flights and prevention flights in necessary cases.
