ANKARA - True Path Party (DYP) leader Mehmet Agar said on Sunday that TRNC President Rauf Denktas is not the side that wants to leave the negotiation table, on the contrary he is the person who sits at the negotiation table and who made the other side sit there.
Agar visited the same day TRNC President Rauf Denktas who is in Ankara.
Speaking after the meeting, Agar said that they hoped Denktas to recover from his illness completely and to continue working in TRNC.
Agar said that Denktas is a very important statesman who contributed to the national cause for a very long time by making great sacrifices.
Agar said that the basic mission of DYP is to integrate with Europe and the world, adding that ''yet we should not be submissive, and we should give importance to national interests and concerns.''
Noting that the negotiations about Cyprus continued, Agar said that ''the public opinion is not sufficiently informed about the details of Annan's plan.
''When we look at the details, we see that there are certain problems, and these should be overcome through negotiations,'' said Agar.
Touching on position of Greece in Turkey's EU membership process, Agar said that Greece which would carry out EU term presidency after the new year should show its ''sincerity'' which it used in its statements.
Stressing that Greece had a very important responsibility in that issue, Agar said, ''Greece should show once again its friendly attitude and its determination and sincerity in Turkey's EU membership process.''
Agar said that they expected the government to be more careful on its on foreign policy issues and noted that there should not be contradictory statements within the state.
''We think that negotiations on foreign policy should be carried out in line with the rules of Turkish diplomacy by people who have legal and political responsibilities,'' he noted.
