ANKARA - Associate Professor Necip Hablemitoglu from the Ankara University who was killed in an armed attack on Wednesday night, will be laid to rest on Saturday.
Releasing a statement, Huseyin Bozoglu, the lawyer of Hablemitoglu, said that body of his client would be laid to rest on Saturday after the midday prayer at Ankara's Kocatepe Mosque.
In his statement, Buzoglu referred to news stories published in some press organs.
''Dr. Hablemitoglu had always targeted not to make any concessions from the independence Turkey acquired at the end of its National War of Independence. Therefore, he became the target of forces who are against enlightenment. Those who ignored the fact that Dr. Hablemitoglu carrying on works on all issues he had considered against interest of our people, was silenced forever, and those who have been misleading the public opinion with some scenarios by bringing secondary results of the method used by terrorism to the forefront will be considered more assassins than the real assassins,'' he said.
Buzoglu added, ''the Genc Bayrak newspaper published in Bandirma claimed in its first page on May 25, 2002 that Dr. Hablemitoglu was a member of the ERNK, a subsidiary of the terrorist organization PKK, by taking Anadolu Agency (A.A) as reference. Following day, we applied to the A.A, and the A.A told us that the news story in question was totally baseless. Dr. Hablemitoglu had filed a lawsuit at the court months ago. Despite it, we observed that some press organs have still been continuing their baseless publications. These publications are nothing but a disrespect to his memory. They also point to collaborators of assassins of Dr. Hablemitoglu.''
