Ecevit: Foreign Minister's Statement About Cyprus Was Quite Inappropriate

AFYON - Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader Bulent Ecevit has said, ''it was a quite inappropriate and unsuitable statement'' while commenting on Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis's statement saying, ''Turkish soldiers would be considered invaders if a solution can't be reached in Cyprus until February 28.''
When recalled of Yakis's statement, Ecevit said it was absolutely a wrong definition.
Noting that he found such a statement especially by the foreign minister very strange, Ecevit said, ''even those who took position against Turkey about this issue have not shown Turkey as it were an invader. I hope that it was slip of the tongue. It was totally an unfortunate statement.''
